It is not just another Zoom meeting

A week has passed since my first module at Saïd Business School.

When I got accepted for the Oxford Executive Diploma in Artificial Intelligence for Business, I was both extremely excited and scared. I was excited to fulfil a dream of mine to study at Oxford, one that I have had since high school. I wanted to be a part of this vibrant community, to walk the old streets of the town and to sit in the libraries enjoying an endless selection of books.

All these romantic ideas were mixed with my passion for technology and the ambition to understand more about the latest tech trends and ideas, with real application in practice.

At the same time, I was scared about whether I would be able to meet the high standards and if my experience was at the required level. Alongside that, I was wondering if 2021 was the best time for this commitment. With this mixture of feelings, I made my first step on this journey.

This year is a bit different and walking around the town will have to be postponed for some time. To my surprise, the online experience offered no less excitement. From the first minutes in class, we were all engaged in meaningful discussions and time passed without us knowing it. ‘This is not going to be yet another Zoom meeting’, was the promise we got and it was kept.

Throughout the whole week, we got to meet an amazing selection of industry experts, to talk and discuss topics related to all aspects of AI, in such an interactive way that you cannot feel the distance. The organisation was flawless. We got the time to discuss and reflect, the time to ask questions and share experiences, and the time to chat and comment.

After these intensive five days, I was left with lots of food for thought and further reflections in this expanding field and only one regret – that the amazing cohort of this diploma did not get to meet for a beer after class. But I will keep my fingers crossed for May.
